National Geographic listed it as one of the most beautiful trails in the world. It is unusual to find so much variety in the landscape. The trail goes through incredibly colourful rhyolite mountains, black obsidian lava, wheezing hot springs, lakes clear as a mirror, black sandy desert and ends in a lush forested area. Besides allowing for plenty of time to enjoy the hike itself, it is strongly recommended that hikers use the opportunity and stay some time in Langidalur in Þórsmörk at the end of the hike. Þórsmörk is a veritable hikers paradise with great many beautiful hikes, both long and short. Hut wardens will provide all necessary information. Fagradalsfjall is also the name for the wider volcanic system covering an area 5 kilometres (3 mi) wide and 16 kilometres (10 mi) long between the Svartsengi [ˈsvar̥(t)sˌeiɲcɪ] and Krýsuvík systems. The highest summit in this area is Langhóll [ˈlauŋkˌhoutl̥] (385 m (1,263 ft)). No volcanic eruption had occurred for 815 years on the Reykjanes Peninsula until 19 March 2021 when a fissure vent appeared in Geldingadalir to the south of Fagradalsfjall mountain. The 2021 eruption was effusive and continued emitting fresh lava sporadically until 18 September 2021. The eruption was unique among the volcanoes monitored in Iceland so far and it has been suggested that it may develop into a shield volcano. Due to its relative ease of access from Reykjavík, the volcano has become an attraction for local people and foreign tourists. Another eruption, very similar to the 2021 eruption, began on 3 August 2022. Here you can find all information about my tour: https://www.hikingfex.com/en/post/carnic-high-trail er Karnische Höhenweg (Weg Nr. 403) ist ein Wanderweg in den Karnischen Alpen, der in weiten Teilen auf der Höhe des Karnischen Hauptkamms in mehrere Varianten entlang der Staatsgrenze zwischen Italien (Regionen Venetien und Friaul-Julisch Venetien) und Österreich (Bundesländer Tirol, genauer Osttirol, und Kärnten) verläuft. Gleichzeitig ist er Teil des Südalpenwegs (Österreichischer Weitwanderweg 03) sowie des Friedenswegs, dessen Idee bereits im Gruber-De-Gasperi-Abkommen von 1946 vorhanden ist. Außerdem ist er Teil des Roten Weges der Via Alpina. Der Höhenweg selbst weist keine außergewöhnlichen Schwierigkeiten für Wanderer auf. Es muss aber berücksichtigt werden, dass die Etappen (zum Teil bis zu neun Stunden) sehr lang sind. In der Hauptsaison Juli/August ist der Weg sehr überlaufen und es kann zu Engpässen bei Übernachtungen in den Hütten kommen. Da die meisten Begeher am Wochenende an- und abreisen, empfiehlt sich ein Start außerhalb der Wochenenden. Der Weg kann in beiden Richtungen begangen werden; je nach Richtung dominiert die frontale Sonneneinstrahlung am Vor- oder am Nachmittag. Bei einem drohenden Wettersturz sollte nicht gezögert werden, einen der zahlreichen Notabstiege ins Tal zu nutzen, denn auf dem exponierten Höhenweg besteht große Blitzschlaggefahr. Der mit 7500 m Höhe über dem Meeresboden dritthöchste Inselvulkan der Erde gehört zum Gemeindegebiet von La Orotava. 18.990 Hektar der Bergregion sind als Nationalpark ausgewiesen. 2007 wurde das Gebiet des Nationalpark El Teide von der UNESCO in die Liste des Weltnaturerbes aufgenommen.[2] 2018 wurde der Park von 4,8 Millionen Personen besucht. Der Pico del Teide ist ein Schichtvulkan. Seine Hänge sind kaum bewachsen. Er erhebt sich aus einer Caldera mit 17 Kilometer Durchmesser namens Las Cañadas. Nach früheren Vorstellungen entstand sie vor 170.000 Jahren aus einem älteren Vulkan, dessen entleerte Magmakammer in sich zusammenbrach. Der Teide selbst ist nicht in einem Schritt entstanden. Der Komplex Teide-Pico Viejo ist ein Schichtvulkan, der sich durch die Anhäufung von Material aufeinanderfolgender Eruptionen bildete. Der 200 Meter hohe Teidegipfel El Pitón entstand ebenfalls aus einem älteren Krater. Der letzte Ausbruch am Teide-Massiv fand am 18. November 1909 am Chinyero, einem Schlackenkegel 10 km nordwestlich des Gipfels statt. Der letzte Ausbruch innerhalb der Caldera ereignete sich im Jahre 1798 an den Narices del Teide, die an der Flanke des westlichen Nachbarvulkans Pico Viejo (3134 m) liegen. Der Nationalpark El Teide (spanisch Parque nacional del Teide) ist ein Schutzgebiet auf der spanischen Insel Teneriffa. Sie schließen östlich an die Hohen Tauern an. Die Gebirgsgruppe befindet sich in Österreich in den Bundesländern Salzburg und Steiermark. Die Schladminger Tauern sind eine Gebirgsgruppe der zentralen Ostalpen. Zusammen mit den Radstädter Tauern, den Rottenmanner und Wölzer Tauern und den Seckauer Tauern bilden die Schladminger Tauern die Großgruppe der Niederen Tauern. Das Gebirge befindet sich in Österreich in den Bundesländern Salzburg und Steiermark. Die höchste Erhebung ist mit 2862 m der Hochgolling. Der Hochgolling ist ein Berg des Alpenhauptkamms an der Grenze zwischen dem Salzburger Lungau und der Steiermark. Mit einer Höhe von 2862 m ü. A.[1] ist er der höchste Berg der Schladminger Tauern sowie der gesamten Niederen Tauern. Schaustück des allseits steil abfallenden und durch dunkles Gestein geprägten Berges ist seine rund 1000 Meter hohe Nordwand. Der Hochgolling erhebt sich auf den Gemeindegebieten von Göriach und Lessach im Salzburger Lungau sowie auf dem Gemeindegebiet von Schladming im steirischen Bezirk Liezen. Er ähnelt in seiner Form einer dreikantigen, oben abgestumpften Pyramide mit drei markanten Graten, die allseits in steile Bergflanken abfallen. Den größten Neigungswinkel hat der Berg dabei an seiner Nordseite mit der imposanten, rund 1000 Meter hohen Nordwand. Der Greifenberg ist ein 2618 m ü. Der Weg verläuft um die Mont-Blanc-Gruppe, führt durch drei Länder (Frankreich, Italien und die Schweiz) und gehört zum Netzwerk der GR-Fernwanderwege. Die Länge beträgt ungefähr 170 km mit ca. 10.000 Höhenmetern. In der Regel wird er entgegen dem Uhrzeigersinn in sieben bis zehn Tagen bewältigt. Auf französischer Seite führt der Weg vom Tal der Arve (mit den Hauptorten Chamonix und Les Houches) über das Val Montjoie und dessen Zentrum Les Contamines-Montjoie in das zur Gemeinde Bourg-Saint-Maurice gehörende Vallée des Glaciers. Vom Weiler Les Chapieux aus gelangt man dann über den Col de la Seigne zum Rifugio Elisabetta Soldini Montanaro nach Italien und durch das Val Veny nach Courmayeur. Nordwärts geht es nun über das italienische Val Ferret über den Grand Col Ferret in das Schweizer Val Ferret nach Champex-Lac. It has an area of 740.7 km2, including Ilhéu de Agostinho, Ilhéu de São Lourenço, Ilhéu Mole (northwest). As of 2011, Madeira had a total population of 262,456. The island is the top of a massive submerged shield volcano that rises about 6 km (3.7 mi) from the floor of the Atlantic Ocean. The volcano formed atop an east–west rift in the oceanic crust along the African Plate, beginning during the Miocene epoch over 5 million years ago, continuing into the Pleistocene until about 700,000 years ago. This was followed by extensive erosion, producing two large amphitheatres open to south in the central part of the island. Volcanic activity later resumed, producing scoria cones and lava flows atop the older eroded shield. The most recent volcanic eruptions were on the west-central part of the island only 6,500 years ago, creating more cinder cones and lava flows. Madeira is the largest island of the group with an area of 741 km2 (286 sq mi), a length of 57 km (35 mi) (from Ponta de São Lourenço to Ponta do Pargo), while approximately 22 km (14 mi) at its widest point (from Ponta da Cruz to Ponta de São Jorge), with a coastline of 150 km (90 mi). It lies in the west of La Spezia Province, and comprises five villages: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. The coastline, the five villages, and the surrounding hillsides are all part of the Cinque Terre National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Cinque Terre area is a popular tourist destination. Over the centuries, people have built terraces on the rugged, steep landscape right up to the cliffs that overlook the Ligurian Sea. Paths, trains, and boats connect the villages as cars can only reach them with great difficulty from the outside via narrow and precarious mountain roads. Cinque Terre is mentioned in documents dating to the 11th century. Monterosso and Vernazza were settled first and the other villages grew later, whilst within the territory of the Republic of Genoa. In the 16th century, the inhabitants reinforced existing forts and built new defence towers to defend the area from attacks by the Turks. Cinque Terre experienced an economic decline from the 17th to 19th centuries,[citation needed] recovering when an arsenal was built in La Spezia and it gained a railway link to Genoa. The railway led to migration from the area and a decline in traditional industries until the growth of tourism from the 1970s onwards brought some prosperity. The predominant crops in the area have been grapes and olives. Some fisherman were based in Monterosso, but the area's gaily painted fisherman's cottages were conceived in the late 1970s as a tourist attraction. Zwischen der beeindruckenden, vergletscherten Hochgebirgslandschaft und der über Jahrhunderte gepflegten, bergbäuerlichen Kulturlandschaft, bietet die Glocknerrunde ein einzigartiges Natur- und Wandererlebnis. Der Großglockner ist mit einer Höhe von 3798 m ü. A. der höchste Berg Österreichs. Die markante Spitze aus Gesteinen der Grünschieferfazies gehört zur Glocknergruppe, einer Bergkette im mittleren Teil der Hohen Tauern, und gilt als einer der bedeutendsten Gipfel der Ostalpen. Seit den ersten Erkundungen Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts. Die Hohen Tauern sind eine Hochgebirgsregion der Zentralalpen in Österreich. Der rund 120 km lange und bis 3798 m ü. A. hohe Hauptkamm stellt die geografische Mitte der Ostalpen dar.
